David Zhvaniya was born on July 20, 1967 in a picturesque city of Tbilisi, Georgia. His family was one of the noblest families in the country. David’s father, Vazha Zhvaniya, received education in Physics and Philosophy and lectured at the university. Having defended his thesis on the theory of probability, he was invited to work as the Head of the Agitation and Propaganda department in the USSR Communist Party Central Committee. His responsibilities included preparing speeches for the party leaders. Later, Vazha Zhvaniya became the Head of the Postgraduate Education Institute for Teachers. David Zhvaniya’s mother, Luisa Zhvaniya, was a hematologist and all her life worked in the Railroad Hospital in Tbilisi.
In 1973, David Zhvaniya entered the secondary school № 69 in Tbilisi. Having finished it with honors in 1984, he entered Tbilisi State University. He graduated in 1991 and obtained qualification of economist specializing in agricultural planning. From 1986 to 1988, he did military service in the Soviet Army in Tbilisi.
In 1991, David Zhvaniya moved to Ukraine. In 1999, he became its citizen. In the meantime, he started his career in the “Trading House” Closed Joint-Stock Company as an agency department manager.
In 1995, the young professional was promoted to the position of chief financial officer.
In 1998, David Zhvaniya was appointed for the position of President of Brinkford Cons. Limited Enterprise (Ukraine), and afterwards, in 2001, he became the company’s Head of the Board of Directors.
In 1995, David Zhvaniya’s parents moved to Ukraine and settled in Kyiv. Having gone too early, they were buried in Baikovo Cemetery.
David Zhvaniya’s political career started in 2002. Being a member of the Our Ukraine Block, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the fourth convocation and worked in the Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption.
In 2005, David Zhvaniya was appointed to the post of Minister for Emergency Situations and Chernobyl Affairs. Representing the Our Ukraine Block in 2006, he was elected a Member of Parliament of the fifth convocation. In 2007, after the early termination of authorities of the Verkhovna Rada, David Zhvaniya, who was already a member of the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense Block, was elected a Member of Parliament of the sixth convocation. During the last two VR convocations, David Zhvaniya has been working in the Science and Education Committee. Nowadays, he heads the Intellectual Property and Innovation Activity Subcommittee. In 2005, Zhvaniya was one of the founders of the Our Ukraine Political Party, but in December 2006, he left it on political grounds. At the beginning of 2007, he entered a new public organization, the People’s Self-Defense.
In June 2010, he established and headed the “Right of Choice” MP group in the Verkhovna Rada.
In December 2010, he joined the Committee on Economic Reforms under the President of Ukraine.
In 2010 through 2012, he has been the Christian-Democratic Union party member.
At the parliamentary elections of 2012, David Zhvaniya was elected a MP of the 140th single-member district. Them he ran as a self-promoted and non-partisan MP.
In the Verkhovna Rada of VII convocation, he is heading the Committee on State Building and Local Self-Government.
David Zhvaniya is married. Together with his wife Oksana he brings up three daughters and a son.
